Grade schooler returns P100,000 he found inside a jeepney

A young boy in Ifugao is making us smile today.

Denard Uy-uyon, an 11-year-old student at Panubtuban Elementary School in Asipulo, Ifugao, brings us good vibes in the middle of a pandemic as he returned over P100,000 cash he found unattended in a jeepney.

Uy-uyon was playing inside the public utility vehicle owned by his neighbor when he saw the pouch containing P102, 450. Inside the small bag was a bank withdrawal slip that helped them identify the owner.

Uy-uyon’s mother, Daisy, immediately called the owner, Myrna Nalliw, who had no clue that the money was missing.

“Masaya po ako na naibalik ‘yung pera na buo. Doon sa bata ay sana ay marami pang katulad niya na honest,” Nalliw told ABS-CBN News.

The Department of Education Tayo Youth Formation Division Office of Ifugao lauded Uy-uyon.

“Indeed, this young boy heard well and internalized the teachings of his parents, relatives, teachers, and other mentors from other agencies. He is now a model to other children,” the office said.

Uy-uyon was rewarded for his honesty. He reportedly received P10, 000 from an anonymous resident of nearby Kiangan town.
